This folder contains the ongoing series titled "Elephant Island." The images draw from the concept of illogical and, perhaps, irrational situations. Specifically, this series was inspired by Antarctic explorations executed around the turn of the last century. The imposed desperation, the whittling down of concerns and the chosen isolation with all but suicidal risks are fascinating. These needs deeply reflect the human situation; that is, to obsessively seek meaning, to search for why we are self-aware. The "Elephant Island" series buries the figure. Each piece is performative in that my approach to the canvas is dependent upon placing myself in the mindset and plight of the figure and using this as a structure for mark making.
